It's all presented in a colourful, animated style, but what really impressed me when I recently played the demo was Raine's score. Simultaneously, she's drawn into the parallel world of Reverie where she meets godlike Aspirations - Truth, Power, Bliss - and must balance the fates of each through narrative decision-making. Hopefully, this new project from the Chicory team is only better. Chicory is of a quality and purpose that stood out in 2021. With the Chicory team, however, Lobanov's work has become something really special. Suffice to say, Lobanov has a diverse range of experience across game genres. He previously worked on many small projects, with the two most notable and recent projects being musical platformer Wandersong and procedurally-generated roguelike deck builder Coin Crypt. This new creature is already creating fans who can't wait to get to know this fuzzy buddy better.Ĭhicory isn't Lobanov's only game. It makes it easy for Chicory players to care about the characters involved in the game's story. While there's a darker element to Chicory, the vast majority of characters in the game have an approachable and friendly disposition to them. What's undeniable about the creature, however, is that it has all of the charm that Chicory players would expect from the game's development team. In that regard, it's a very good teaser, because it doesn't really offer any insight into what the new game will really be. It could be the protagonist of the Chicory team's new game, perhaps hinting at a 2D platformer of some kind, or it could be a side-character, NPC, or even an enemy. Lobanov doesn't offer any other information about their huggable running creature. It's a two-legged creature with a cute nose, big round eyes, large fox-like ears, a fuzzy body, and a short blunt-ended tail. The image features a character endlessly running. In a short post on Twitter, Lobanov confirms that he's working with the Chicory team on something new and with it shares an animated image. ![]() It's exactly what Chicory fans will appreciate. Game director Greg Lobanov has confirmed that a new game is in development from Chicory's team, offering up the game's first teaser. It seems that the development team behind Chicory enjoyed creating the game as much as players enjoyed playing it. It was one of the excellent indie games released this past year that stood apart from the crowd, earning any number of Game of the Year awards across many categories. Chicory: A Colorful Tale is one of the biggest surprises of 2021.
